So what’s happend the past 2 weeks?

Mostly work and work.

On my time off I’ve been planning my vacation this year, which will go to Amsterdam… and how will I get there?

By bike! so a lot of the weekends have gone into biking and getting into shape and to endure 4-5-6 hours on a bike, which I’ve so far managed quite well, 2 weeks ago I had Friday off and over the course of 3 days I covered over 100KM on the bike, that’s a little under 1/2 the way to Amsterdam from Münster.

I’m sorry that this post is so short, and there’s no picture, but I’ll post more next sunday

So well, I’ll be moving to Germany now can’t wait, 2 weeks and I’ll be on a plane O_O

I’m SO EXCITED!

Apple is a niche company, but this time they tried to hit a niche that is too small. the iPad is just simply too limited to become a success. Give us multitasking, then it might just do something good

So whats up, well, 2010 hit…

I’ve opened my own gallery local at the site with a bit more low-res pictures(high-res isn’t exactly always a good thing lol)

and I took a lot of pictures, click the picture on the left to visit the gallery the pictures will be available at dA as well in maximum res of course under the usual CC-by-nc-sa license.

Other than that, I want to give a little heads up about a nice webmaster forum, you might’ve seen me talk about it before.

Loving Tech, A lot have happened the past year here, It started almost a year ago(21st jan 09), and have grown to just about 1700 memebers, have over30 000 posts(!) and have some very dedicated members with lots of knowledge on all kinds of topics. I suggest you check it out and join in on the discussion.

In tech some nice things happened, Windows 7 was released, and made a grand entering(at least in my opinion) and proved that the vista move wasn’t that stupid. Other than that Apple came with the 3gs, and the iPod touch 3g, both with much faster and better hardware, which might be a good thing, we’ll see. There’s also been some leaks, most have probably heard about this already, Google is having their own phone that isn’t tied to any particular carrier in the us, which at least to my foreign head is a good thing(we’re used to it being like that )

On the coding side, I’ve learned perl, I’ve started(and quit) learning LISP, and are learning IO. I’ve coded a few thousand lines, mostly in C++ concerning hacking on Emerald, but also done about 5 000 lines in perl for my radio project which is shaping up on the back-end finally.

On my blogging I’ve been a bit too lazy though, I got 6 drafts which I’ve been writing some on, but I don’t have enough time to complete them, so as a product they might never be done, but I’ll try to complete them during 2010.

On the photo side, I’ve passed 10 000 pictures(!) on the pentax, the lucky picture was this:

So introducing micro updates(above) a new server and a updated url to the radio

Today I migrated the blog to a new server, while keeping the radio on the old one.

the new url to the radio is http://radio.thorerik.net and the stream is on http://radio.thorerik.net:8201

it is very imporant to use radio.thorerik.net, since it’s 2 different servers.

Also I’ve written a quick tutorial on NTP over at Server Monkey! check it out!

Now to what I really wanted to talk about: Politics!

It is now closing up on the election here in Norway. and because of this I kind of want to talk a tiny bit about that, and what annoy me the most about it: people who complaint and that haven’t voted!

I was at my friend Othilicious(aka. Othilie) and during the night we spent some time to discuss politics and take some tests turned out we where quite close to each other when it comes to what parties we agreed the most to.

Tomorrow or the day after I’ll be out interrogating some politicians ^_^

So I got a good friend who asked me if i wanted to test out the iphone 3.0 firmware beta, so i said why the heck not? and now here i am, after roughly 2 weeks of active use, happy as ever, and relying 100% on the features it provides.

there isn’t as many new features in the iPod as in the iPhone version, I’m only stuck with iPod cause that’s what i got (:()

mainly the only difference is that you got a tiny spotlight icon on the bottom page indicator, if you slide to the left you get access to spotlight:

this thing searches everything by default. Mail, contacts, sms(if your on a iphone), music, bookmarks, and history.

Now the seccond bigest new thing for iPod users is Voice Memos(dunno if iphone had this, but i think it had)

It do require a iPhone headset or the new Shuffle headset(with the controls), and works quite simply just press the red button and record, press the listing and you can view the recordings you’ve done.

Podcasts

from left to right, first is mail-to, this links to the itunes page of the podcast you’re listening to, use this to for example tell friends about how awesome Eddie Izzard is , second is used to jump 30 secs back, which is pretty nice, instead of the 10 sec it sort of dose at random where you got no control, last is podcast speed, this setting allow you to speed up a bit(twice as fast, or half speed), useful if you can’t be bothered to use the next function:

Scrubbing

Scrubbing, you could do this before too, but only at real-time speed, which made it hard to fine scrub to the place you wanted to listen/watch from, so by sliding your finger down from the bar you can control the scrubbing speed.

Bluetooth

Bluetooth! I haven’t gotten it to work properly yet, but I’m not even sure if it’s supposed to work yet(kind of like MMS in beta 1-2 for iphone)

now there is a new feature on the main settings menu, called store, this is ment to let you get a quick overview of your itunes account, not that good looking yet(just a badly formatted embedded webkit view) and not functional.

City of Big Shoulders by Timothy Hamilton

So today the blog was back. What happend was that my webhost disappeared(so did the owner btw) so it came to a slight shock to me when my site just flew away while i was writing a post(!), but now it’s back, and this time i was lucky enough to have just a few days ahed taken a quick post/comment backup.

RPX is not working yet (I’m trying to fix it, but something weird is happening whenever i try add the key), but will soon, so until then you don’t have to be logged in to comment.

Now some other updates, The concept code i was talking about a few months ago is taking shape,  the XML-RPX over GPG and SSL module is almost working flawlessly, and soon I might just release it for developer testing(it’s a PHP5 class compatible with PHP 6). If you are interested in testing it for me, mail me:  participate [@] thorerik.net with the header “Beta participation“. please provide this info(if available): name, website, server php version and modules, OS, if it’s a VPS etc. this is so i can if there is many that want’s access that i can choose out so i get variety in the testing.

Let me just open up with a short story from yesterday:

I was on the bus and this lady was standing right in front of me with a hideous jacket, I guess it was supposed to resemble some wool or something. on the back of the jacket there was the Tibetan flag, with the company’s own logo on the flag! How lazy are you when you decide to buy a jacket with a flag stitched on the back to show support to a country? This made me so mad I went off the bus one stop too early.

Now, If you ever are going to wear your country’s flag, Wear it with pride! That means, not as a thong, bra, t-shirt, pants or anything else, I don’t mean that you can’t wear a flag as a small badge, but what i mean is as a piece of clothing made out of fabric resembling the flag like this.

In my opinion wearing a flag(not a badge etc. of course) is worse than burning or dragging a flag along the ground(which in most places is considered the worst thing you can do to a flag), I think it’s even worse when you do it to other countries’ flags, like the lady on the bus, as you have no ties to that country, except maybe a political statement, but then you don’t wear that country’s flag, you show your support in a far better way, meet up at their embassy and show your support there.

oh and btw, the company who made the jacket is Bik Bok.
