Wearing your flag

This is maybe the one thing people should do with pride, no matter how much they hate their government…

Let me just open up with a short story from yesterday:

I was on the bus and this lady was standing right in front of me with a hideous jacket, I guess it was supposed to resemble some wool or something. on the back of the jacket there was the Tibetan flag, with the company’s own logo on the flag! How lazy are you when you decide to buy a jacket with a flag stitched on the back to show support to a country? This made me so mad I went off the bus one stop too early.

Now, If you ever are going to wear your country’s flag, Wear it with pride! That means, not as a thong, bra, t-shirt, pants or anything else, I don’t mean that you can’t wear a flag as a small badge, but what i mean is as a piece of clothing made out of fabric resembling the flag like this.

In my opinion wearing a flag(not a badge etc. of course) is worse than burning or dragging a flag along the ground(which in most places is considered the worst thing you can do to a flag), I think it’s even worse when you do it to other countries’ flags, like the lady on the bus, as you have no ties to that country, except maybe a political statement, but then you don’t wear that country’s flag, you show your support in a far better way, meet up at their embassy and show your support there.

oh and btw, the company who made the jacket is Bik Bok.

Comment your thoughts about this.

Bored to death

That’s at least while I was at the hospital…
Late last night, while walking up in the woods around Oslo I got this terrible pain in my chest(no not left part). (shortcutting here now :p) I called to a doctor for a quick consult weather it could be dangerous or not, as I really wanted to get up to the cabin i planned to go to, where the doctor I called sent a car to get me cause my general health is exceptional, so it was worth checking out.
I ended up on the hospital til 5 pm today, and with order from the doctor to take it easy.

Just if they had wifi so i could view youtube I’d not be bored to death(I actually managed to complete over 100 songs in Tap tap revenge 2! my hand is still hurting :p)
other than that, swapped out the login system to RPX which allow you to auth with some more than just OpenID or register :) yay!

also testing a new plugin quickly :)

A nice youtube vid:

Horde for live – Jiji

Moved the website over from the temp backup place to the new place!

now the moving isn’t all done though, in a few weeks, I hope to move it to my own server rack  which is going to be expanded just before the move, and the site will be on a dedicated virtualized(single vm with all resources to itself) machine with these specs: 2.4 ghz quad core xeon, 4 GB ram, 1 TB disk and Windows 2008

other than that, this will be the new design for the next at least few months.

I’ve also taken on the job to be co-host for a new podcast which will launch soon(i’ll post more on that when it’s all settled :) )

other than that, thorerik.com is out in open beta, so now you can see the result of all the hard work i’ve laid down, and you can follow the progress, next up is adding youtube and later flickr

Title said it all :)
Now a few updates on whats up.

a few months ago I posted some twitter bookmarklets for ipod and iPhone, and Sorry to say, but they won’t get any updates any time soon :( Just don’t have time for it when I work on my new profile portal thorerik.com and the sudden shutdown of my old host(and then return to the old backup host, which is outdated :o ).

Also posted a youtube video a while back where I explained a idea I had, basically being a more secure version of for example what wordpress is.
The concept code is continusly developing, and I’ll probably open up the source either this month or some time during April :) (might work on it during the Gathering 8th-12th April, drop by if you’re there, seat 1 @ row 31 ;) )

btw, just quickly back to the project over at thorerik.com, that might(!) also be open sourced, We’ll see :)

still trying to be active on twitter, mostly end up reading tweets(with over 200 followers and following over 300 there’s a lot of tweets O_O)

also on the plans is to create more tests of apps for iPod/iPhone, as I use that all the time, and think there is way too few tests of actual apps(many write very subjective reviews, I try to be some what objective when I review things :) )

one review that is also coming up is Safari 4, and Firefox 3.1(now renamed 3.5 according to some news sites), and not to forget final version of IE 8, the beta’s have been very impressive(considering IE7 was terrible).

Also trying to get listed on a norwegian blog listing called Blogglisten.no, and hopefully going to get some more traffic :) If that happens, more posts will come, and they will be WAY more frequent :) as a treat to all of you regulars :)

Last but not least, I will begin to vlog too, as It’s a bit easier, and it’s a bit more lazy :p

Again, thanks to all of you who visit regularly :) <3 you

Please keep in mind I only tested a handfull of clients, there are MANY others available.

List of clients I tried:
Tweeter(link)

Tweetie(link)

Twitterfon(link)

Twitterrific (Free/Premium)

Tweeter

This may be the simplest client around, it dose 1 thing, Tweet.

I personally think the idea was good, but the lack of timeline and the ability to view other people’s tweets kind of ruins the whole point with twitter.

The client simply contains 3 fields, username, password and the twitter form.

Unless you only need this single function, steer away from this client.

Tweetie

This client is very advanced, Multiple Accounts support, simple interface, splits replies, direct messages, favorites, and allow you to search for nearby users, trends or just view your own profile.

for $3 this is a good buy

Twitterfon

This client is much like Tweetie, but with a slight different look, and missing a single feature the two other “big guys” got, display the ones you follow’s full name, not just their screen name.

This may be nice, but seriously, they could at least add it as a feature.

It also lack the “trends” feature(thanks to those who mentioned that Twitterfon actually got this feature :) you just showed that I need to do my research better), but that’s not really bad, consider it’s free and open source(!) it functions well, and is easy to use.

Twitterrific

This is the simplest client of the “big guys”, no support for viewing dm and replies on their own, no trends, but at least it displays your contact’s names.

In Premium you get access to a white theme, not really my taste, but I guess it’s nice for those who like it light.

One thing i really liked about Twitterrific is that it’s ability to adapt to the user, with a setting where you can set it into “left hand mode” where it moves the twitter button to the right side, so it’s easier to access with left hand, also the ability to customize how to open @screen_name (url) is nice, considering I personally preffer twitter.com, not m.twitter.com as I got a iPod Touch and always got ADSL access when i use it.

Overall Twitterrific dose it well, it’s simpler than both Twitterfon and Tweetie, but that isn’t such a drawback :)

The free version got ads, which is displayed after every 50 tweets, not really that annoying, but my personal preference is ad-free and then it costed me $10, which is kind of stiff for a twitter client.

Overall

Well overall I think all 3 is very good, but if i had to pick 1, that would be Twitterfon, it’s free and advanced, with only a few missing things that you can live without.

out of the two paid, I’d say Tweetie, as it got a lot of features, but lack the pretty interface

Update: There used to be screenshots in this post, but due to some unforseen happenings(hdd falure and host disappearing) they are not available and have been removed from the post, there will be added new and more accurate screenshots, each of the apps themselves also provide screenshots, so check them out in the meanwhile :)

It’s my birthday!

And i turn 19, that’s the magical number.

not that much to write though, going to go to school, program that bot i’ve been working on, and then maybe something epic happends, who knows? :)

For some wierd reason people answer to the question “How are you” when you say “Sup?” to them.

Why so? there is no resemblance to “how are you” in the term “sup” which comes from “Whats up”.

Do anybody know why this happends? It only caught my mind today, as I was talking to random people, and way more than usual answerd to the question i did’t ask…

comment or twitter me if you got any ideas.

Yup, Ubuntu 8.10 came out last night, and OLUG(Oslo Linux User Group) and NUUG(Norwegian Unix User Group) celebrated it, with Ubuntu coke(a new Fair trade coke, which is also first fair trade coke) and pizza, quiz and some nice speaks, mainly about security, but also a bit about new features.

From the little i got to test it, it seemed fine and I might consider suggesting it to people i know now.

Head over to Ubuntu, Kubuntu or Xubuntu and get your copy (or be lazy and get Wubi).

  • @sondreb takk for følget, tenkte å søke deg opp for et par dager sia, men fant ut at søk ikke funker enda #
