New Holmenkollen, Stock by me

I’m SO EXCITED! :D

Will move to Münster, so if you are around there, say hi! ._. always nice to know people where you are going :)

Only thing I’m thinking about is how to get my computers with me ._. Will figure that out some way though :)

also received a letter from the army, have to go in a year, to the air force :D it’s like Christmas, twice in a day :D

<- oh and the new holmenkollen is in place and Lit, Anette Sagen got the honourable first jump :) (klikky image for larger version :) )

We all have heard of the iPad by now, and in short this is what I think about it:

Apple is a niche company, but this time they tried to hit a niche that is too small. the iPad is just simply too limited to become a success. Give us multitasking, then it might just do something good :)

and of course, my sis is blogging now, about being a mom for the first time :) and for english readers, a bad translation by google

It’s been a while

Fireworks!

The fireworks in Oslo

So whats up, well, 2010 hit…

I’ve opened my own gallery local at the site with a bit more low-res pictures(high-res isn’t exactly always a good thing lol)

and I took a lot of pictures, click the picture on the left to visit the gallery :) the pictures will be available at dA as well in maximum res of course under the usual CC-by-nc-sa license.

Other than that, I want to give a little heads up about a nice webmaster forum, you might’ve seen me talk about it before.

Loving Tech, A lot have happened the past year here, It started almost a year ago(21st jan 09), and have grown to just about 1700 memebers, have over30 000 posts(!) and have some very dedicated members with lots of knowledge on all kinds of topics. I suggest you check it out and join in on the discussion.

In tech some nice things happened, Windows 7 was released, and made a grand entering(at least in my opinion) and proved that the vista move wasn’t that stupid. Other than that Apple came with the 3gs, and the iPod touch 3g, both with much faster and better hardware, which might be a good thing, we’ll see. There’s also been some leaks, most have probably heard about this already, Google is having their own phone that isn’t tied to any particular carrier in the us, which at least to my foreign head is a good thing(we’re used to it being like that :) )

On the coding side, I’ve learned perl, I’ve started(and quit) learning LISP, and are learning IO. I’ve coded a few thousand lines, mostly in C++ concerning hacking on Emerald, but also done about 5 000 lines in perl for my radio project which is shaping up on the back-end finally.

On my blogging I’ve been a bit too lazy though, I got 6 drafts which I’ve been writing some on, but I don’t have enough time to complete them, so as a product they might never be done, but I’ll try to complete them during 2010.

On the photo side, I’ve passed 10 000 pictures(!) on the pentax, the lucky picture was this:

Picture 10 000!

Picture 10 000!

Which was taken in Gibraltar :)

Take care and happy new year, and I hope you all will continue to enjoy my posts here :)

No the Sneekpeek isn’t done yet, but it is close :) there’s a lot of content to handle for it ;)

but let’s talk about what’s been holding that post back a bit, Vacation!

I had a few(4) weeks on vacation around the eastern baltic states, through sweden, in finland for a week, then Estland, Latvia, Lituania, Poland and Germany.

It was a nice holyday :)

now below you see some more pictures, and more will be added later, to keep 100% up to date, look at my deviantart page!

now off to a bit different topic, Internet radio, since my host is so kind to give me shoutcast, I thought why the heck not?

While I’m getting everything ready it’s “just” going to be a 24/7 stream with Creative Commons music from Jamendo this won’t change now or in the future :)

If you hear a song you like, you can just head over there and search for the artist, song or album, and it’s there, your’s to keep :) can’t get much better than that can it?

you’ll find the player and links to the stream here, or just direct your player to http://radio.thorerik.net:8201

If you got any requests(they must be Creative commons licensed, preffer if it’s available at Jamendo(link above), that way I can get away with not having it as a download here(my philosophy: if I can download it, everyone else should, legally!))

click the pictures for their deviantart page!

iPodMovie

Recently iPodMovie.info Opened, and as a part of the release i decided to try it.

First thing I noticed is the really neat design. It is very easy to navigate and easy to find what you look for.

iPodMovie.info main page

iPodMovie.info main page

The minus for me is that I use Firmware 3.0 which means I can’t jailbreak, and that means I can’t watch any movies directly or download them to the iPod on the move, I need a PC, though if you got a jailbroken iPod/iPhone you can download directly, Which i tested and it works well.

Quality of the movies can improve a lot, but considering this is free it’s not that bad. A little hail to apple maybe to get things rolling about movie rental/purchases outside the US…

Over all the page works well, and I would recomend if you can’t get the movie another way in higher quality.

They have also developed a special app for this website, so if you got a jailbroken device, I’d suggest getting the app, it’s in the BigBoss repository and is named iPodMovie.

If you are into movies, and absolutely need a movie, this is a service that could be a savior :)

overall I’d give this service a 4 out of 6. The good part is that you can get movies quickly on the move, the bad is that you simply get a bad quality video, and you do run the risk of breaking copyright rules.

Notice: There is no guarantee that the movies are legal(as far as I’ve been able to find out), I do NOT endorse piracy except when the ones supposed to distribute it is too stuffed to see that we want it easy, without 50 hoops and drm. If you download a video, I’d suggest supporting the movie studio by for example buying the dvd or similar

Alexander Rybak og Tone Damli Åberge

Alexander Rybak og Tone Damli Åberge

Today Alexander Rybak won Eurovision Song Contest for norway, beating the finish record of 221 points with 95 points, totaling with 387 points!

The song can be found on youtube (HD if you please :) )

The cool part is that officially he won on the constitution day, and in 2010 we can celebrate that Norway first time entered Eurovision Song contest!

So today we also celebrate the Constitution day, 17th May. Norway’s Consitution is now 195 years old.

For those of you waiting for the iPodMovie review, It will be around on monday, I hope, things got hectic here so things did’t work out that well at first, Also comming up is a update to the twitter client’s review, as Twitterrific is out in version 2, and several more have popped up.

iPod Firmware 3.0

Note: I’ll be posting a more in depth overview soon, this post is still very correct(little have changed, mostly aditions)

This post is also featured at iModZone and LovingTech

So I got a good friend who asked me if i wanted to test out the iphone 3.0 firmware beta, so i said why the heck not? :) and now here i am, after roughly 2 weeks of active use, happy as ever, and relying 100% on the features it provides.

there isn’t as many new features in the iPod as in the iPhone version, I’m only stuck with iPod cause that’s what i got (:()
The home screen looks the same, with some tiny differences(one not shown in the screenshot, but the app is shown later)

Springboard

Springboard

mainly the only difference is that you got a tiny spotlight icon on the bottom page indicator, if you slide to the left you get access to spotlight:

Spotlight

Spotlight

this thing searches everything by default. Mail, contacts, sms(if your on a iphone), music, bookmarks, and history.

Now the seccond bigest new thing for iPod users is Voice Memos(dunno if iphone had this, but i think it had)

Voice Memo

Voice Memo

It do require a iPhone headset or the new Shuffle headset(with the controls), and works quite simply just press the red button and record, press the listing and you can view the recordings you’ve done.

now, back to spotlight a bit:

Spotlight

Spotlight

as you can see, it’s available practically everywhere you’d need to search :)

Here’s a few more features podcast related:

Podcasts

Podcasts

from left to right, first is mail-to, this links to the itunes page of the podcast you’re listening to, use this to for example tell friends about how awesome Eddie Izzard is :D , second is used to jump 30 secs back, which is pretty nice, instead of the 10 sec it sort of dose at random where you got no control, last is podcast speed, this setting allow you to speed up a bit(twice as fast, or half speed), useful if you can’t be bothered to use the next function:

Scrubbing

Scrubbing

Scrubbing, you could do this before too, but only at real-time speed, which made it hard to fine scrub to the place you wanted to listen/watch from, so by sliding your finger down from the bar you can control the scrubbing speed.

last screenshot:

Bluetooth

Bluetooth

Bluetooth! I haven’t gotten it to work properly yet, but I’m not even sure if it’s supposed to work yet(kind of like MMS in beta 1-2 for iphone)

now there is a new feature on the main settings menu, called store, this is ment to let you get a quick overview of your itunes account, not that good looking yet(just a badly formatted embedded webkit view) and not functional.

have any of you guys tested it? what are your thoughts?

I love it

City of Big Shoulders by Timothy Hamilton

City of Big Shoulders by Timothy Hamilton

So today the blog was back. What happend was that my webhost disappeared(so did the owner btw) so it came to a slight shock to me when my site just flew away while i was writing a post(!), but now it’s back, and this time i was lucky enough to have just a few days ahed taken a quick post/comment backup.

RPX is not working yet (I’m trying to fix it, but something weird is happening whenever i try add the key), but will soon, so until then you don’t have to be logged in to comment.

Now some other updates, The concept code i was talking about a few months ago is taking shape,  the XML-RPX over GPG and SSL module is almost working flawlessly, and soon I might just release it for developer testing(it’s a PHP5 class compatible with PHP 6). If you are interested in testing it for me, mail me:  participate [@] thorerik.net with the header “Beta participation“. please provide this info(if available): name, website, server php version and modules, OS, if it’s a VPS etc. this is so i can if there is many that want’s access that i can choose out so i get variety in the testing.

Some new stuff too, From this post and forward I will pick a random Creative Commons picture that I like and include it in my posts :)

This time It’s a picture called City of Big Shoulders taken by Timothy Hamilton of the American city Chicago

click the picture for flickr page.

the picture is Creative Commons by-nc-nd licensed, so feel free to distrobute it, but remember that you can’t make any remixes or sell it :)
